Session 3 - Improving Our Digestion of Foods, Thoughts, and Actions

COURSE OVERVIEW:

In AYS 3 you will put the historical and technical knowledge from AYS 1 and 2 to work in body, thought, emotional and psychological practices. We’ll look closely at factors affecting digestion and assimilation in the body and the mind and
practices to regulate our physical, mental, and spiritual digestive fires (agnis).

Upon completion of AYS 3, you will be able to put the following concepts into practice:

  • Using the 6 tastes to create a proper diet

  • Use internal and external practices to regulate agni or digestive fire

  • Develop clinical awareness of asana, pranayama, meditation and diet/lifestyle as it relates to digestion and assimilation.

  • Make ghee, kitchari, seasonal veggies, churnas, and medicinal teas essential to Ayurvedic practices.

PREREQUISITES

For personal practitioners (non-certification) — none

For certification tract – 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified yoga teacher (or currently enrolled)

HOMEWORK:

  • Start preparing to apply principles from AYS 1-3 in a client setting by taking yourself and your lifestyle through the process and asking yourself how you would do so for a client.

  • Hands-on work in the kitchen learning to make the staples of an Ayurvedic lifestyle (ghee, kitchari, seasonal veggies, churna, and medicinal teas).

  • Reviewing your food sadhana according to Ayurveda
    -Can you identify the six tastes?
    -The subtle essences of the doshas (ojas, tejas, and prana) and their manifestation in the body.
