the quiet gift yoga gives

kathryn was my very first ayurveda teacher. over the years, as i continued to study with her, our relationship shifted and deepened. she was offering trainings at moondog, first in person, then online. since she lived out of state, she’d often stay at my house when she came to quakertown. we shared dinners at my kitchen table, swapped stories, and filled the room with laughter. if you’ve ever met kathryn, you know—laughter is her language.

we worked together in more ways than one. i was her on-camera student for yoga international, and as her online programs grew, i got more involved with recorded case studies, practice videos, and helping to manage Q&A sessions in her online courses. we even traveled to India together. somewhere along the way, the teacher-student and colleague dynamic, gracefully evolved into a true friendship.

with her in connecticut and me in pennsylvania, we found time to take little adventures—just as friends. during the pandemic, i continued studying with her and hosting her trainings online. when things reopened, we were back to traveling to honesdale for more online training sessions.

our connection had become beautifully layered: student and teacher, colleagues, collaborators—and, most importantly, friends.

so when kathryn and doug asked me to officiate their wedding, i said yes—without hesitation (and then promptly became an officiant!).

that moment was a powerful reminder: yoga doesn’t just connect us to ourselves.

it connects us to each other.

friendships born through yoga often grow quietly—through shared breath, laughter, learning, and presence. but they’re real, lasting, and deeply meaningful.

sometimes, the most unexpected gift of yoga isn’t found on the mat—but in the people we meet along the way.

yoga gives us more than flexibility or strength—it gives us community.

it connects us. it opens our hearts. it brings people into our lives in the most unexpected and lasting ways.

some friendships begin at the edge of a yoga mat.
